Arrival day Saturday 3rd July

Well its almost too late to make any sense, but everyone has arrived safely for Kanga 10. Afternoon of handshakes and learning names, sorting rooms and name tags. After a lasagna dinner back to the outdoor cold shed for a few expectations and house rules for everyone and then off to rooms to sort out gear and meet roommates for the week.

The venue seems functional, with three other teams sharing the site. In the negative, no couches in the meeting room, bunk rooms seem very crowded with full rooms of 10 and because we couldn't get into the heated meeting room tonight, that first night socialising didn't occur. Not as comfortable as Grammar was in '09 which is a shame - perhaps next year a return will occur.

Biggest news for returners is that Norm Armstrong didn't make it - first time in 11 years as coach / mentor / just one game please - his sick and stayed in Brisbane, so best wishes for a quick recovery Norm from everyone.

Good mix of Aussies, with every state represented except Tasmania and NT. Even a young referee from England (Luke Grinstead) is taking some time out his holiday to attend - I'll have to get a exclusive for the blog during the week on his impressions - his so far indicated its "cold"

Tommorrow its the referee seminar, BBQ lunch and opening ceremony. The group of interstate refs seem happy to be here, experienced with a larger than normal older group and excited to get to action. AIS tour may be on the cards for the morning or a fitness test at 6am has been threatened by some of the coaches!!!

KO is imminent for the Germany game, so sign off now until tommorrow. I'll try blogging via mobile and twitter during Sunday.

2010 is here - Travel Day

Hey Kanga Cup Referees,
Can you believe its been twelve months since the last whistle was blown in anger? I can't but know I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new friends at Kanga 2010.

Travelled down to Newcastle today from my new location in Hervey Bay, Qld. Great little town to live in, but a bit far to drive to Canberra and back, so I flew from Brisbane and will drive from my parents Saturday to arrive sometime mid afternoon.
Unfortunately this means no playstation or data projector from me this year, but have improved internet options and will feel under the gun to post something every night and will try and use bloggers mobile options, to keep you all updated regularly.

Sunday's opening ceremony looks to be a fun event, with Canberra Raiders playing a home game ko just 1 hour before the opening - should make what is already a busy area crazy!!

I'm also looking forward to catching up with some of the Wide Bay Rep team that is competing - good luck guys, several of who are local Hervey Bay refs.

Check out twitter for updates http://twitter.com/KangaCupRef during the week for updates and here for pics / linked flickr account

Once again, shout out to Scott for letting me make use of this resouce to keep everyone updated.

It's all over folks

Yes, the final whistle has been blown and everyone is celebrating another great week here in Canberra. The weather was very kind, even hot today for Canberra in July. 18's final was a boring event - again to penalties, but well managed by Nick and Co infront of a appreciative Refereeing group of about 20 interstate, including Ben Wilson (FIFA AR 2006 WC) and Alyson Flynn (FIFA AR).

I was wingman for Norm at Woden Enclosed and we had a great day, lots of good referees and some quality football. No issues, happy winners and Adam and Co on the U14's Cup were all about being professional and colourful in their yellow strip.

Post games, everyone were comparing notes on the day back at Ref HQ and Adam thanked everyone for their efforts. Discussion about a refs match at 11am Saturday may eventuate, but it seems unlikely with most everyone leaving early and no prior arrangements.

Going to bed - post more in the coming days about the tournament and its future......
