Well its almost too late to make any sense, but everyone has arrived safely for Kanga 10. Afternoon of handshakes and learning names, sorting rooms and name tags. After a lasagna dinner back to the outdoor cold shed for a few expectations and house rules for everyone and then off to rooms to sort out gear and meet roommates for the week.
The venue seems functional, with three other teams sharing the site. In the negative, no couches in the meeting room, bunk rooms seem very crowded with full rooms of 10 and because we couldn't get into the heated meeting room tonight, that first night socialising didn't occur. Not as comfortable as Grammar was in '09 which is a shame - perhaps next year a return will occur.
Biggest news for returners is that Norm Armstrong didn't make it - first time in 11 years as coach / mentor / just one game please - his sick and stayed in Brisbane, so best wishes for a quick recovery Norm from everyone.
Good mix of Aussies, with every state represented except Tasmania and NT. Even a young referee from England (Luke Grinstead) is taking some time out his holiday to attend - I'll have to get a exclusive for the blog during the week on his impressions - his so far indicated its "cold"
Tommorrow its the referee seminar, BBQ lunch and opening ceremony. The group of interstate refs seem happy to be here, experienced with a larger than normal older group and excited to get to action. AIS tour may be on the cards for the morning or a fitness test at 6am has been threatened by some of the coaches!!!
KO is imminent for the Germany game, so sign off now until tommorrow. I'll try blogging via mobile and twitter during Sunday.
